The History of CapControls
Most private companies rely on proprietary spreadsheets to track and maintain accurate ownership records of equities, debt, warrants and options. Typically, multiple parties, including the company and its attorneys, accountants, consultants and institutional investors, require access to this critical information. During a liquidity event, reconciliation of various ownership records is both time-consuming and fraught with the opportunity for errors.
CapControls was born from such experience. CapControls' co-founders, Joe Maxwell and Charles Blankenship, previously built Investment Scorecard, an independent, third-party investment performance reporting company. Investment Scorecard was trusted with the personal investment data for clients of 5 of the top 10 investment firms and more than 800 leading trust and asset management companies. After growing the company for 14 years, Maxwell and Blankenship sold the company to Informa Plc in 2007.
Maxwell and Blankenship were able to earn the trust of many of the nation's leading banks, investment firms and trust departments because they understood the critical importance of data integrity and security. CapControls is built with the same focus on accuracy and security.
Maxwell and Blankenship learned the hard way about the immense complexities of managing shareholder records during the sale of Investment Scorecard. CapControls, similar to Investment Scorecard, is quickly becoming the enterprise application for integrated shareholder and cap table management, cross-company reporting and outcome analytics.
